But Seriously
I really did have a good time this weekend visiting family in Louisiana that I rarely get to see. They are all my 2nd and 3rd cousins, and they're all good people. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they are not rednecks or white trash (I know it's a bit hard to believe considering they had squirrel for dinner, but I'm serious). None of them live in a trailer park, they actually have very nice houses with a lot of acreage. I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to see how they live and what they do for fun (mostly eat). The fish fry, the coffee on the front porch in the morning, family dinner for 35 people on Saturday night - it's just a different way of life. They are all just country people that enjoy a slower-paced life. I found that they trade a deep interest in material and superficial things for a deep interest in their families and friends instead. And really, in the end, aren't friends and family the most important things you'll ever have in life anyway?
