Dear mom and dad,
Congratulations on your 31st wedding anniversary. I just wanted to write to simply say, 'thank you.'
I know there have been experiences that have tested your vow of "for better or for worse." And yet, you've kept it. Thank you for staying together. Thank you for being role-models for the kind of love I know I deserve.
I know there have been hard financial times in the past that tested your vow of "for richer or poorer." And you've kept it. Thank you for showing me how to get through tough and lean months, without ever realizing we even went without.
I know that there have been illnesses and injuries that have tested your vow of "for sickness and in health." And you've kept it. Thank you for showing me how to be a care-taker, placing each others needs before your own.
And finally, I know that there have been disagreements in the past to test your vow of "to love and to cherish." And yet again, you've kept it. Thank you for showing me how to communicate with a future partner out of respect, even when you don't see eye to eye.
You are my example of what I look forward to in my future. I am so blessed to have witnessed, continue to witness, and learn through your love for one another. May the next 31 and beyond be as beautiful as the first.
Love,
Me

What a blessing they must be to you an your sister's lives, and how beautiful it is to have you recognize the effort and love that has made they're marrige last.
Well said. Those of us whose parents have stuck together may not always realize how lucky we are.
Aw! That's so sweet. It isn't easy to stick together. Thirty one years - that's a lot of water under the bridge. Of course you will never be able to replicate your parents' relationship - not exactly - but the message that people can stick together, can endure is a very good one. Good luck in your continuing quest for Mr Right.
That really is a beautiful letter. It shows that keeping such a relationship requires work, patience and of course, a lot of love. Here's to hoping that we are all so lucky to have a relationship like that! :)
